Dr. Guajardo,
Yes it was encouraging to see that the last CLE focused on immigration. That's great that you worked on getting 1403 passed. It makes me proud that Texas' 1403 served as an example for other states. I didn't know that it also served as an example for the DREAM Act.

As you might know, dreamers are mounting a huge push to get the act passed this year. Dreamers at a national level are working with Senator Reid to get the act out on the floor, while folks all around the nation are working to get the support of their senators. In Texas we need to put pressure on Hutchison to guarantee her support for the DREAM and commit to vote for the act as written. To this end, this month we launched a letter writing campaign asking DREAM supporters from around Texas to write letters to Hutchison, which we will deliver to her office on Sept 13 corresponding with a state-wide day of action.

It would be great to connect with educators already in support of the act to get their involvement. It would also be great to connect with folks who supported 1403 and ask for their support. Could you help at all with this effort? I would really appreciate any help I could get.

Dr. Guajardo,
I enjoyed your comments about educating through platicas. My family also used platicas to do most of the informal education that continues to be some of the best education I've had to this day.

I’m trying to connect with supporters of equitable education in the RGV. LUPE, one of the host orgs in the CLE in the RGV, is currently pushing for the DREAM Act, a bill that would allow many undocumented youth a path to citizenship if they continue their education. As you may know, undocumented students face major barriers to pursuing higher education because of their status, and because they can't legally work after getting their bachelors, they are discouraged from even pursuing a college degree. Because of your interest in educational equity, I thought you might be interested in this campaign. If you are, confirm my friend request and I’ll tell you more about it.

Hello, Dr. Guajardo.

It was nice hearing your voice, too. I did get an email from Cheryl and will be coordinating a time to talk about being on her show. I took a listen to her past shows last week and they were great! Thank you all for thinking of us. The group did mention the DC meeting. They said they'd be in touch with us about details and having us possibly participate.

On another note, Jose Rico from the DOE was asking Angela again last week about top universities who are preparing Latino/a teachers. I never heard back from your dean so I'll send a reminder email to him, too. The DOE is really wanting to hone in on who's leading in that area so in addition to mentioning Pan Am and Tx State we'd like to convey more than just data about what you all are doing.

Let me know what you think. Angela and I have a meeting w/ Dean Barrera next week so we'll get her input then. Have a wonderful week and we'll be in touch.

Thanks, Francisco. Add a comment to a group like he just did is a perfect way to keep others informed. I noticed that Miguel have not yet joined that group (learning and design circle) so I sent him an invite. Steve, Dale, and I however all got an e-mail notification of your reach out to communities and positive response from Brooklyn. Thanks for putting in some time here.
